Telehealth
Wouldn’t it be so much easier to get mental health care from your living room? There would be no need to organize a babysitter, drive in traffic, and wait in a lonely waiting room hoping to hear your name next. There may even be a physical or mental health issue that prevents you from leaving your residence.
Since COVID-19, this has become a new normal. Between 2018 and 2020,physicians practicing telehealth jumped from 25% to 79%. In April of 2023, more than 60% of telehealth diagnoses involved mental health. This shows the benefits of connecting people to care via virtual options.
Clean Recovery Centers offers telehealth services for substance use disorders and mental health conditions. But what does this care look like?
What We Treat: Substance Use Disorders and Mental Health Conditions
Substance use disorder is a type of mental health condition where the person has taken either legal or illicit substances in a way that their body and mind have formed a dependence. They experience negative effects on their relationships, jobs, financial stability, and physical and mental well-being. The substance becomes the focal point of their existence, taking over all areas of life. Many will need help to stop taking their substance of choice, which is where substance use disorder treatment comes into play.
Mental health conditions affect many every year. Depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and more can interfere with everyday life, affecting relationships, jobs, and health. Treatment options for mental health are not one-size-fits-all, and having a dedicated care team that helps you find what works for you is vital.
At Clean Recovery Centers, our compassionate team addresses and treats substance use disorders, mental health conditions, and co-occurring disorders.
How We Treat: Telehealth Care at Clean Recovery Centers
Clean Recovery Centers utilizes a three-phase approach to both addiction and mental health treatment. Phase one consists of a medical detox (for substance use disorders) and a residential I stay. Phase two involves a residential II stay for those in mental health treatment and optional day/night housing for those in substance use disorder treatment. Both of these phases require in-person care.
Phase three consists of outpatient care. During this phase, telehealth treatment is an option for both mental health and substance use disorders. Our telehealth program allows you to stay connected to your care team without driving to our facility multiple times per week. You will keep your care team and can continue telehealth visits after completing phase three. The goal is to keep you connected to your program while you work toward physical and mental well-being.
Sessions will consist of therapies, progress reporting, and medication management for those prescribed mental health medications during treatment. The frequency of these sessions will be determined by your care team to ensure your personal goals and needs are exceeded.
What Is Telehealth Medicine?
Telehealth is a form of medical care that takes place virtually. When the world shut down for COVID-19, telehealth became a safe way to receive care from doctors, therapists, practitioners, and more. You meet with the professional via Zoom or other meeting services for consultations, therapy sessions, and care discussions. The convenience behind telehealth is that it helps those who have limited transportation options or health issues that prevent them from leaving the house to still access care. Medications can also be managed via telehealth and most can be shipped, furthering the convenience.
Benefits of Telehealth Care Over In-Person
As we mentioned above, telehealth provides the option of getting connected to care without leaving your home. You have a set appointment time, reducing the time it takes to drive to the office and wait for your name to be called. The doctor can refill and adjust dosages of medications that can be picked up from the pharmacy, or sometimes even shipped to your front door.
Another benefit of telehealth is that you can set up appointments with multiple providers without having to travel to different offices. Your therapist may not be at the same location as your medical doctor, requiring two different appointments with two separate trips. Telehealth allows you to schedule appointments all in one day, making it a convenient connection to care.
How to Know if Telehealth Is Right for You
Telehealth is not for everyone, especially those who are early in recovery or their mental health care. Your care team will want to examine you in person to help decide the proper course of treatment. Those looking for extensive support will likely start with in-person treatment options before eventually transitioning to telehealth. However, this doesn’t mean telehealth will never be an option.
Your care team will work with you to determine if telehealth is a good option. At Clean Recovery Centers, we transition our clients who qualify for telehealth during phase three of treatment. We offer telehealth at an outpatient level and can continue offering this service even after treatment is completed.
Your Virtual Health Visit: What to Expect in Telehealth
Depending on where you are at with your care will dictate how your telehealth visit goes. If you are just starting with a provider, the first visit will entail going over your history as well as learning about why you are seeking care. If you already have been seeing a provider in person, transitioning to telehealth won’t change your care team, and you can expect to see familiar faces as you continue building on your progress.
Breaking Barriers: Telehealth for Addiction Recovery
Telehealth for substance use disorders is typically for established clients who have completed some form of in-person treatment. This can include a detox, residential stay, or intensive outpatient programming. With substance use disorders, the person has been taking substances for a length of time and will need more thorough care at the beginning of their recovery. The care team provides proper assessments and designs a path that will fit the person’s needs and goals.
Once the client is ready to transition to outpatient programming, telehealth will be available. These visits will consist of check-ins with your doctors as well as therapy sessions to continue building on your progress in recovery. Clean Recovery Centers offers telehealth visits as often or as few as needed, depending on your needs.
Healing Minds, Virtually: Telehealth for Mental Health Support
Mental health is crucial to our overall well-being, but daily stresses and busy schedules can take away our time to heal. It can be difficult to carve out the time and energy to make and drive to an appointment, even when you know it is important. Telehealth support for mental health conditions helps bridge that gap by bringing the appointment to you.
Whether you are diagnosed with a mental health condition or looking to get more information, telehealth connects you with care while easing the stress of having to go to a facility. At Clean Recovery Centers, we offer mental health telehealth as part of our outpatient services.
